"People tend to grow out of stuttering at around their own respected teenage years," I agree, according to a paper, 80% of them overcome stuttering. Adults also overcome stuttering but much less. Why is that? In my opinion, it's because adults who overcome stuttering did not go to therapy. Think about it, in therapy you learn the same riddle "there is no cure so it's okay to stutter" which creates a stutter mentality with reasons to stutter. (source: in TSM "stressors", Harisson "somatic memory"). The adults have a much higher chance to over come stuttering without therapy. This makes sense, because researchers would never be able to confirm it then and the statistics remain the same. What is your opinion?
