It is extremely difficult blocking on your own name. It happens to me constantly when I am in a professional setting. I try to divert and buy myself time with BS questions like “Have we ever met before?” Or “You look very familiar.” It works sometimes, but if I am not in control of when I need to pronounce my name, I can sometimes never get it out, and then a coworker or someone has to handle the introduction for me. It comes off as very rude and standoff-ish. My career has essentially halted because of encounters like these. It has gotten worse as I have gotten older. Saying my name when doing something as simple as picking up a to-go order is enough for me to stay home and just make a sandwich.
