30F, have stuttered since I could talk! I still have lots of ups and downs, but I feel strongly it is all about confidence. Once you decide to not give a heck if you stutter on a word or if you don’t stutter on a word, your confidence will grow. I found once my confidence grew, I stuttered a bit less. I was anticipating words less and trying to focus on the present more. Also, I am a big advocate of “advertising”. Tell people you stutter right away! I find myself always stuttering on the word “stutter”, so in an introduction scenario, I’ll say something along the lines of: “Hi my name is Emily and I stutter…. obviously”. Then I laugh because I stuttered on “stutter” and it makes everyone comfortable to smile as well. Then they know if they hear something like that again, it’s stuttering and it’s no big deal. You got this! It makes you, YOU. It took me a long time to work with it, not against it. It is something I still have to work on everyday. Good luck girly!
