Facing stuttering when studying abroad This summer I'll be studying for some months in Japan and I suffer from a severe stutter since I was a child. I get by in my native language more or less but when I speak a foreign language, my stuttering becomes a lot worse. It's been 6 years since I started studying Japanese and in my class I had the chance of being granted enough time to stutter without getting interrupted, but I fear that in Japan I'll have problems due to my stutter, considering how I get blocked for like 10 seconds in every word. Studying abroad is one of my dreams but I'm afraid I won't be able to face living in a foreign language stuttering as hard as I do, it's just frightening. I've been going to speech therapy for a few months now to learn tecniques to alleviate my stuttering, but I still struggle a lot. Has anyone of you had any experience like this? Do you have any advice? Just wanted to vent really, because only thinking about it makes me feel sick and insecure about my future.
