I'm in IT as well. If you do the math... Assuming you do 3 calls a day and you had 5 situations of this ilk, that is only .25% of the time. So 99.75% of the time it doesn't happen. That's how you have to look at it. I think there is nothing wrong of calmly letting them know that you stutter. I would do the same. If they feel uncomfortable (and they should be), what are they going to do? Tell your manager that they made fun of you and now they feel uncomfortable? Lol In regards to getting a new job, the grass is always greener as they say. Given the rate of occurring jerks, since it's low, if you like everything else about the job, I would stay.
