Similar experience during and soon after college. Moderate to severe stuttering during interviews, especially phone interviews. I somehow get more nervous and wound-up if I can’t see them in the eyes. My approach back then was to always pump myself up by singing out loud before an interview. Getting into a “party” mood helped me relax. This didn’t always work, so some interviews definitely tanked and hit hard on my morale. Advice: Find ways you can relax before the interview, gain confidence in yourself, and submit to dozens if not hundreds of interviews without losing hope. I’ve had interviewers blatantly tell me no because of stuttering, and others acknowledge and help ease my anxiety to eventually giving me an offer. Don’t be defeated.
