I have been thinking about what you said, it’s so true, in 2020, I think people have evolved but stuttering is still not widely accepted and embraced. It seems that every other physical, emotional, or mental “challenge” is discussed and even celebrated, yet stuttering seems to have taken a backseat to other issues. When you said that some interviewers looked shocked and embarrassed when you had a block, that really hit home with me. I have a tendency to break eye contact when I have a block, probably to avoid seeing how the other person reacts. It’s so mortifying and upsetting to see someone react negatively when all we are trying to do is speak. I think they are just surprised, and might not have met a stutterer before. That is why I think it’s so important to have more awareness and campaigns surrounding speech disfluencies...so that the public is more sympathetic of these issues.
