A knock of confidence

A knock of confidence I grew up with some ridicule over my lisp, but it's something that I never let hold me back, I love reading, and have never had an issue with public speaking/presentations etc. And it's gotten much better over time. A few weeks ago my now ex-boss mentioned my stammer in passing conversation, stating that she thought it was something that I did to add character to my sales pitches at work. I never knew I had a stammer. When I spoke to my better half, she said it's something that I've always had (at least in the 8 years we've been together). Now that it's been mentioned, I often catch myself doing it and find that it's getting much worse to the point where I was recently reading a legal script to a customer the other day and froze mid sentence. I couldn't speak, couldn't get any words out at all. That's something that's never happened before and has really knocked my confidence, and to be honest I'm not quite sure what I can do about it. Any help/advice would be appreciated.
