Did a presentation today !! Hey redditors, in college and did my last public speaking presentation for my major, and I’m officially done. Public speaking is always an aspect that I respect people for and I give it up to people who do it daily. Did I stutter? Of course but not as much as I had thought; i used breathing techniques (pauses at the end of sentences and speaking on my exhale breath) to help me go forward. I also had my mask on as “armor” so people cannot see my mouth if I locked up. But overall I did good and my teacher and group mates congratulated me on my performance. So one of the best tips I had still to this day is to never overthink, NEVER!!! I think its because our mind plays mental tricks on us; anticipating on trying NOT to stutter, makes me stutter so the less I overthink the better I do. Next thing is using your imagination: I always like to imagine myself already done speaking from the presentation but not be exact on the details because again(overthinking causes me to stutter) and the end result is something I strive for. And lastly, if I stutter, I stutter: if I look past it I can literally move on and I can finish the presentation as intended. So again, having a stutter is perfectly fine and the mindset that follows can show potential to lessen the errors when talking
