While I don't have this issue and cannot pretend to understand. Would reading lips be useful? Would the combination of what you do hear, with the skill of lip reading, enable you to understand more and enhance your ability to decipher what is being said perhaps? On the subject of remembering things, I feel Memory Systems would be very beneficial. And I'm not saying that because I teach and specialize in Memory Systems. I'm saying it because of how powerful they are. Turning abstract information into visual pictures via, The Memory Palace system. I teach it to children and adults and either way, people are always amazed at the benefits. Far beyond just being able to "recite Pi to the 1000th decimal.". I mean the practical daily benefits. Mnemonic systems teach you to translate anything, words, numbers, books, into imagery they can be easily memorized. And they're fun. Sorry for rambling, just my thoughts from my perspective. Again I can't begin to understand what your situation is like.
