I’m a woman and I don’t feel I have it easier at all. I work in a corporate environment where I frequently need to present to senior leadership. There is a such thing as ‘executive presence’. Those that have it will find themselves on the shortlist for promotion; those that don’t will struggle to be given a shot. Unfortunately stuttering does not lend itself to executive presence and can absolutely have a negative impact on your career in certain cases. As a woman, I do not have it any easier than my male counterparts. Either I’m fluent and sound amazing or I’m not and sound like I’m 20 years old and this is my first job.
