Some people are just like that though. Most people who I have met over the years who stutter don't let it stop them, some like me have had therapy and live a normal life, some have it so bad they can't speak at all, then some use it as an excuse. I know a few people who make every excuse in the book as to why they can't do this, can't do that, why their life is so bad, and if they had a stutter they would absolutely add it to their list of excuses. My experiences are similar to yours, it was uncanny reading this post because it mirrors my life perfectly. I decided at 19 enough was enough and sought the help I didn't have as a child, my life is great now (I'm 30). Unfortunately some people don't have the confidence or will to change or improve their situation, and some don't have the resources. But you are bang on with your post.
