I gave you a good faith response to your question. How many can achieve my type and level of fluency? One. Me. My level of fluency is just that... *MY* level of fluency. It's not a measure to be used for anyone other than me. I'll reiterate though. I believe everyone can achieve greater fluency than their current level. Myself included. Therapy gets a bad rap. And I 100% understand why it does. I believe a lot of the speech therapy out there is ineffective. For a variety of reasons. Public school therapists swimming out of their depth. "General" therapists playing at speech therapy. Etc. I read what I would call horror stories of therapists pushing the stutterer to work through their stutter by increased exposure. Making them approach 100 people in public, or other high anxiety / stress situations. So, yeah, I understand why people are negative about speech therapy. But despite that, I frequently speak out when people claim that speech therapy doesn't work. I know that it can. Speech therapy helped me. I know that it helps others. I always advocate for speech therapy. If I can help just one person improve their fluency, it's time well spent. Just one person who decides to give it another go. To redouble their efforts. To seek out a program that helps them.
