I have a hard time saying "thank you" and "thanks"

I have a hard time saying "thank you" and "thanks" I don't have too many problems with stuttering, but this one can be difficult to work around. Sometimes I will say "I appreciate it" instead, but that phrase can sound awkward depending on the situation. Any advice?
