Much of the research is based on case studies, though. Although there are indeed some controlled and blinded studies as well. It just means it’s a start- doesn’t mean it’s bleak. I’d love it if safe medications were developed which would treat stuttering easily and it sounds like it’s entirely possible considering the neurological basis of stuttering.
