Yes, been in practice for over 30 years. Intervention pain management. I recall being super stressed in med school… almost like I was hiding some terrible secret , less so in anesthesiology residency and zero now for many years. Over time I learned patients, staff etc really don’t care, and the fear of stuttering and thus stuttering itself diminished over time. However undergrad and med school was needlessly scary and embarrassing. As I was forced and later put myself in positions where I had to talk, I slowly realized I could do it, stuttering or not. I finished as the outstanding graduate anesthesiology resident. During my interventional pain fellowships I totally lost fear and found I could do lectures or anything…sometimes I stuttered but always got great evals from attendees. No one will care and even if someone does( really never happened) the heck with them…so pursue your dreams… I did it and I was a severe stutterer. The sooner and more often you put yourself in speaking situations, the easier it will get.
