This realization became the key to overcoming my stutter. Today I don’t stutter, although I did throughout my youth. Then I noticed that when we are alone with ourselves, we barely stutter, and I realized — that’s the key. The task was to learn how to feel around other people the same way I feel when I’m by myself. In other words, to be just as calm and relaxed. That means developing self-confidence. Stuttering is fueled by fear and anxiety about what others might think. I simply started working on my self-confidence. And it doesn’t really matter why we started stuttering in the first place — that’s not important. What truly matters is building confidence, and the stutter will disappear on its own.
