Thanks for the reply. Do you find that people assume you can't speak French well when you get stuck? I don't know if this is a problem unique to the Japanese where it's already assumed via various racial biases that foreigners can't speak the language. I'll often speak to a Japanese person I'm not familiar with and get stuck on a word then have that person assume I don't know the word and start speaking to me in incomprehensible broken English...
