This really clicked with me. I’m 44, and just like you, my “stutter” is seemingly brought on by certain situations that make me nervous, or self-conscious. I also have learned, since a very young age, to substitute some words for others that are “easier” to say. You said something really spot-on I thought — that, unfortunately, you need to desensitize yourself to how you think others MIGHT judge you. In all reality, they’re not really judging you. They really don’t care about the stutter. It’s a quirk, sure, but all they want to do is communicate with you, especially in the work place. Believe me, you put much more pressure on yourself, in this regard, than anyone else does. I know it fucking sucks. The only advice I have is to get used to it, get past it. No one really cares. I wish you the best Rough-Energy.
