Hi there! I've had a stutter for my entire life. Sometimes it's worse than others but never is it not noticeable. I have been flat out told that a company won't hire me because I have a stutter. While I could have for sure sued, I take it as a blessing. Thank you for showing me what your company is truly like ahead of time. My entire life I've been told all of the things I can't do, and you know what? I do them anyway. My journey of "doing it anyway" started a long time ago where I would do something that made me super uncomfortable - calling someone on the phone to ask what their hours were. Ah, the torture. I got hung up on sooo much but eventually it got easier. Then, I would go to a conference or event and ask a question in front of first a small group then larger groups with a microphone. Even if I didn't have a question, I would make one up. Hard at first then got easier. Then I would give presentations, first to small groups and then to larger groups. Don't get me wrong, things can be hard and some days are better than others. Just today I heard myself on a recording and hated it. But, we have to push through. You can do anything you want. And remember, it isn't necessarily because of your stutter that things happen. Remember when you do start to stutter, slow down and breathe and don't hate on yourself. For years I called myself stupid and it made everything worse. The more down you are on yourself, the more anxiety you have, the worse your stutter will be. It doesn't need to define you. You are more than a stutter! Last thing I want to stay - everyone has SOMETHING. No one is perfect, we all have demons. Some of us just have things that are easier to see than others. Life is hard but you can do anything you want to do even with a stutter. This is coming from someone that was a CFO at 28 and has been a COO for the last 7 years running start up companies. If you ever need someone to talk things out with DM me. You got this. Edited to add one more piece of advice - be up front about it. Esp in interviews. They will hear it anyway so no sense in hiding it. I usually also give reasons why it hasn't impacted my life and how it has made me as strong and motivated as I am.
