I am a 31 yo female who stutters, I have just been prescribed Abilify Hi! I have been stuttering ever since I was about six years old. My dad used to have a little stutter as a kid but he got underneath his tongue clipped so that I guess got rid of it? Anyways, I know I’m not alone in this as 1% of the population has one, and about a quarter of that 1% is female! If you too stutter, know that you are not alone and that sometimes it feels better to talk about it. I have found that my Prozac and Wellbutrin have kind of made it worse, but I need them both for depression. I have tried less caffeine and that does help, but I also really love caffeine! According to my prescriber, Abilify is supposed to help as it blocks some dopamine in your brain and dopamine is in charge of your motor skills. However he told me it doesn’t make you “less happy” it just kind of organizes your brain a bit and works really well with anti depressants. I just started on a low dose of it, I will report back in 4-8 weeks once it’s fully in my system! Also: I know we are strangers, but if you experience the same thing and you need anyone to talk to, I’m here to talk! I know I haven’t felt comfortable discussing this with anyone until just last year, but I know talking about it really does help. Hope this helps anyone who has been on the fence about trying medication to increase their fluency!!!
