I think there might be a difference between habitualized secondary behaviors, and then involuntary severe movement like what you seem to describe. I'm not quite sure, though. Say a kid starts developing a tendency to hit themselves - that's something that's looked at as a treatable behavior. To which extent something like what you describe can be treated as well, I don't know. Perhaps one of the SLP's in here could help with an elaboration?
