Update #3 on my journey to (hopefully) getting disability Quick recap, I applied for disability for my stuttering, I went for the interview and now have just been waiting to hear back. Here is my last thread https://www.reddit.com/r/Stutter/comments/6nvjbx/update_to_my_last_post_about_getting_a_disability/ So around 2 weeks ago, I received a letter in the mail saying that I am scheduled for a psychiatric exam tomorrow morning. I am really nervous about this one, especially after everything I have read about these. Most of the time its a Dr that does not give a single shit about this and is just doing it for quick money because the patient doesnt pay them, the government does. I am really nervous that they will hear me talk for 5 seconds and dismiss me with positive feedback to social security. The strange thing is I cannot find any info at all online about the place I am going to. No reviews, no website, no anything. I really need to get stuck as much as possible in this one, the initial interview did not seem to be that important in the long run, it was more just giving them information. I know that I have to have this done now, because I have not had any medical history for over a certain time period. But I mean, is there really a point to go to a Dr for stuttering frequently? Theres nothing medically that can be done. I will update this post after my appointment tomorrow morning. Wish me bad luck, so I get stuck a ton lol if anyone has experience with these, please chime in UPDATE!!! This was brutal. It lasted over an hour, and barely had anything to do with my stutter. Just a few questions at the beginning about how long I have been stuttering, if I have been in speech therapy, and that kind of stuff. Then we went into a sort of intelligence/IQ test thing. It was all very odd, and some parts really made me feel like an idiot. The last 50 minutes did not have anything remotely to do with stuttering, but more mental health type stuff. I am really not sure why SS wanted me to go through this kind of test, I honestly really do not think they understand why I have applied for disability. The lady doing the test was cold and clinical at first, but after a little bit of me getting stuck(Which I got stuck a ton!!!), she started to become more warm and caring. Overall, this was a very weird experience.
