When I was having a bad day stuttering , sometimes I would just introduce myself and btw I do have a stutter. It relieves a lot of the emotional pressure . When I correspond with people by email and the need to communicate verbally arises , I mention it in my email. I feel like I’m taking ownership of the problem and not letting it take ownership of me. When I talk sometimes I tap my thumb to my forefinger for each syllable, it helps me keep a slow and steady pace. In formal settings I tap my foot to “pace” me. Michigan State University is usually doing a lot of surveys about stuttering, I’ve emailed some of the people there and they have been very helpful.
