Great question. I lacked the courage to disclose until about age 25. The opposite of disclosing is trying to keep it a secret. Secrecy does not provide harmony within the pws. Like Jekyl and Hyde a pws can be stuck trying to portray himself as a non-pws. Let me try to break it into 3 types of disclosure: 1) proactive- if I am talking in front of a group, interviewing, meeting some one new I might say "sometimes I stutter." NEVER apologize for stuttering 2) a curious and polite question such as "why do say I-I-I?". I have a stutter. (NEVER apologize) 3) snarky comment, mimic, tease: "I stutter. So what !" That puts it back on the jerk. It is his problem not mine. Former Chicago Bear, Adrian Peterson, taught me that one. I tell kids to say it. best, Tim- Atlanta, GA
