I'm not doubting that the stutter is the reason. But sometimes it isn't *exactly* the stutter. It could be they feel uncomfortable with the stutter. They don't know how to behave. Should they finish your sentence? Should they look away? Are you OK? When there's an elephant in the room, and you ignore it, it continues to make everyone uncomfortable. People tend to avoid uncomfortable situations.
