Stutter worsening in other languages?

Stutter worsening in other languages? I've been taking French classes for 3 years. I can pronounce most of my English (first language) without stuttering at all (though I might choose easier words), but I still can't get out two sentences of French without becoming very stuck on a sound and struggling over it for upwards of 20 seconds, while all of my English tricks (gesticulating, slow down and calm down, etc.) fail. Even when I drop any pretense of accent and try to speak like a linguistically inane American (which I am), I can't get through the sound. Does anyone else find their stutter becoming much worse in languages they aren't fluent in? Have you found a solution that works for you?
