I've never posted to Reddit before, I know this post is old but I thought id share my experience with Stuttering (stammering). I just started University in Melbourne, Australia (19) male and currently feeling the forgotten dread that I have to face, which is small talk and making new friends in a new chapter in my life. I feel the exact same way as you did, it's horrible. I have had a stammer since I was about 4 years old, its gone up and down in severity over the years but its especially bad whenever I have to state my name to others in a conversation or answering clearly easy to answer questions (what's your major, what course are you doing etc) for some weird reason. I hope things did improve and you made some connections because being isolated is a horrible feeling, especially if you see your high school friends making new connections and you struggle to strike up a conversation because you are physically held back from it. Stuttering (stammering) isn't talked about very much because there isn't much people can do about it other than be aware. Again I hope you have made some meaningful connections at your college in the last 2/3 years since this post. Stuttering has made my social life 10x harder than it has to be. I'm glad that there are some other people that are in the same boat as me and a similar time of my life.
