Meh, I think that her heart is in the right place. I know that a lot of us here are extremely defensive about our disability, but it's hard to see how it looks like to other people. Stuttering really isn't taken very seriously at all, as things like Porky Pig exist and the vast majority of the GP thinking that's perfectly fine and inoffensive. You can't blame someone for being ignorant (and I hate that word, it seems too harsh) when the vast, vast majority of the GP is ignorant. That being said, in the end, it IS his choice. If he says that speech therapy improves his fluency, I would certainly go, because I'd do anything to reduce my stutter, but he might have good reasons not to and it's thus up to him again. I really do like the dyslexia comparison below (might start using that myself, actually). In the end, I wouldn't recommend pushing him to try to "improve", and try to bear with him. Stuttering has caused us all a LOT of pain and it's normal to be defensive about things like that.
