We might presume it's important for us stutterers to be able to express ourselves fully, and that we seek to do so via other channels than regular speech, which is so often frustrated by our circumstance. So, perhaps it's merely a display of effort. I'm not sure I'm all too keen on the notion that "stutterers are intelligent". It seems somehow a bit too self-serving, maybe? I'd like to think I'm every bit as stupid and intelligent as the next one, and that what makes a difference in performance is not whether or not I stutter, but rather which kind of person I choose to be (to the extent that it's something I can control). But I get that there's often a need for identity (expression) when it comes to labels. That might be the kind of thing we're looking at, here. - Not to criticize your observation, mind you! I just like to reflect on the things we tell each other (and ourselves). :)
