>*"Now that I know that how can I improve fluency ?"* You stated: "*whenever I am prolonging a word I activiely am trying to move on to the next coming sound that I need*", and also that you focus on the sound. The main question is then, what can we learn from this and how to improve stuttering? In my opinion, most *people who stutter* search for ways to improve stuttering, but without aiming for recovery, outgrowing stuttering or subconscious fluency. Do you agree? My own goal is to recover from stuttering and put my own stuttering into remission. To achieve this goal, in my viewpoint I want to think/behave like a non-stutterer. Does that make sense to you? So, do you remember that you "*actively try to move on to the next coming sound*"? If you mindfully observe your prolongation for one week, then you can write down how exactly you are **actively** trying to move. And then divide your list into two categories: Unhelpful beliefs/attitudes: * relying/depending on the sound (that you pointed out) in order to decide whether to hold back speech * in my case, in my own list I also wrote down: relying on anticipation, thoughts, feelings, experiences, and sensations (not just sound, but also body sensations/feelings, visual, introceptive sensory feedback) * in my case, I am timing the **perfect** air pressure/tension against my speech muscles to decide whether to stop moving my speech muscles. This is wrong, because 'waiting out articulation' creates a speech block, and because if I perceive that the air pressure is too much/low then I stop executing speech movements, and this is very wrong because this creates a stutter disorder. You can mindfully observe for one week also to see if you do this also, or maybe you have another unhelpful **timing method** * etc * etc * etc Helpful beliefs/attitudes: (such as fluency laws that guarantee fluency that non-stutterers also apply) * instructing or deciding to immediately execute speech movements * etc * etc * etc Strategy: * after analyzing (and **accepting**) your helpful and unhelpful beliefs/attitudes that causes prolongation, you can then (in step/stage #2) replace the unhelpful with the helpful beliefs/attitudes Is it clear what I said?
