I think it's a great idea, but only if you really go for it. You can't half ass it and pull out when things start to feel uncomfortable. I would say after you do a few, change to goal to having it awkward. Actually even if you do half ass it it'll still be useful. One thing to consider, people are pretty polite nowadays, and most of us know we care and feel worse about our stuttering than anyone else, so you might get friendly responses but remember that could have little bearing on how one might feel inside about themselves.
