Some people get better without doing much. They don't always have the best advise. I had quite a few stutterers in my family. 2 of my brothers, 2 uncles, my dad and a few cousins. All of them got fluent by themselves around the age of 14-17 without any therapy or intervention. Some even had moderate to severe stutter. I, on the other hand, am now 26 with v severe blocking stutter sometimes taking upto 1-2 minutes to get a single word out. I mostly rely on writing to communicate. I asked them for advice and they didn't have any. It just fazed away for them but ig they had more confidence. One.common thing was that none of them were bullied as much so maybe thats a factor.
