A question regarding public speaking…

A question regarding public speaking… To preface my question, I have stammered for my entire life. I have had countless hours of classes in speaking and visited numerous therapists. One similarity between all of these countless hours is that the entire focus was simply on not stammering. This is a task I seem unable to accomplish. Now, onto my question itself. I want to improve my ability to speak, especially in public but also more casually in private. How can I do this with a focus on literally anything other than minimising the fact that I stammer? I think that is a waste of time (and completely futile!) to be quite blunt. Until recently, I had never considered that it was possible to stammer and also be a proficient public speaker who is pleasant to listen to. However, entirely by chance, I listened to somebody giving a talk who stammered and it completely changed my view of this. Having come away with this fresh perspective, I felt a renewed interest in improving my speaking skills. The problem is that the gap between where I am now and what I heard feels impossible to bridge. Please can anybody give me some advice or tell me what works for them? thanks!
