I’ve had a stutter all my life but only those close to me actually know about it. Most people don’t even realise I have it, even if they’ve known me for years. Granted it’s not a severe case by any means, but if the 1% statistic includes people like me then it might be why you don’t come across many others - they hide it and work around it.
