In my case...after the group discussion was over, I had stayed back to inform him that I had a stammering problem. But he didn't allow me to speak and went on to "professionally" ridicule me and asked me to improve my "personality" and to take personality improvement training and said good luck for your next job interview. I had taken part in many other GDs but this was the worst conducted GD I have ever been in during the placement in my college. I've done very well in GDs with over 15 people that too over zoom and almost got selected in the company. I didn't stammer much and was quite smooth in all of them. I really hope that it is regarded as a disability. If a person loses their leg, it's a disability right? Because they aren't fully able to walk around like a normal human being. There were times my stammering problem was so bad that I was so helpless and really wanted some disability status.... especially during interviews where I stammer a lot unlike my day to day activities. But yeah...the main purpose is awareness as I said among the general public AND the workforce as well. I just feel really bad for those people who stammer heavily on a day to day basis as well unlike only during job interviews like me. Although since I moved to USA, I have been really nervous and have been stammering even during normal conversations with friends. I actually felt so down thinking how can I get things done, how can I ask for help incase I need it, etc. I did notice my professor making weird faces when I went to him asking for a few clarifications. I was positive at that time and just took it as a subconscious thing which people do. I always thought he didn't mean to insult and they are all good professors. It is because even I noticed myself straining my forehead whenever I was thinking too hard off late...so I thought even they were trying to focus a bit more and were trying to listen more actively. In India, I guess many do know about this. I got it at the end of ninth standard when there were already four more who had this issue. So, I didn't face any ridicule in school. If you are from India as well...you would already know this movie. There was a movie where the main star was not mentally abled and he stutters when he speaks. During my college farewell party, they had taken pictures of students and a picture or phrases and associated the two. They had used my picture and the picture of that actor in that movie for my turn. I had no clue about it at that time. I didn't stammer much during college and I may have stammered now and then with them which is why they would have done this. Thankfully, I didn't fully understand it at that time. It was only afterwards did I understand that this may be the reason. Apart from this, I have never experienced any ridicule in school or college. More awareness is required for these issues.
