Is it possible that there will be medication for stuttering in the foreseeable future? Hey, I stumbled on an article from Maguire et al. (2020) who discuss the treatment of stuttering via medication. I’m no medical professional myself and English isn’t my first language but as far as I’ve understood it, the article says that certain antipsychotics have been found to reduce stuttering in adults significantly; however, they tend to have such harsh side effects that they’re not approved for the treatment of stuttering. However, newer studies with substances such as Ecopipam show that they might prove promising when it comes to treating stuttering via medication. Now I was wondering if it’s naive to hope that in ~20-30 years from now there might be a medication against stuttering for sale or if you think that such a scenario is unrealistic? And has anyone tried other psychiatric/neurological medications and experienced a significant improvement of their stuttering?
