He sounds like a great guy because he focused on you and not your stutter. I've had people walk away from me when I had a block. I've had people looking at their watch while I had repetitions, I've had some people tell me to learn how to talk........those are people NOT worthy of your time. Do not put so much pressure on yourself. I went on a blind date, and we are still together 29 years later.
