Yea man, that was a difficult time. Another thing I’m working on is learning how to to treat people older or more talented than me on a friendly basis. I used to feel like they were always better than me, or having authority over me. But what I’ve been realizing since graduating high school (I’m a 24M) is that in the real world, sometimes it’s good to just treat each other as people, as equals, as peers. For example, one of the managers at my work (he’s from a different department as me) is this maybe 60 year-old guy. But when I see him, I speak friendly and confident to him, like “What’s up bro?!” In the past I would have approached older men like I was a child and they were my father or teacher. Now I try to just be confident and put myself on the same level as others. Of course there is a fine line though. This manager is pretty hip and cool, but regardless, it’s good to at least perceive that we can speak to anyone on a friendly basis, using informal language. Do you know what I mean?
