Does "situational" or "occasional" stuttering exist? Hi! I often speak just fine, but then for some reason I sometimes stumble over my words and can't pronounce something right and next thing I know, my mouth has repeated a word 3 times and I want to die. Wikipedia (not the most reliable source but often a good place to start?, anyway correct me if I'm wrong) didn't mention anything about "occasional" or "situational" stutter. Instead, it seemed to say that stutterers tend to be stutterers for their entire lives, though speech therapy can help. I also asked a few friends (who are not diagnosed as stutterers), and they were like "nah I just stumble over my words when I speak fast, so I just start over and slow down" . Anyway, I'd like to know what you guys think? (Sorry this post is a mess.) Edit: Thanks for the people who answered me it was really informative. Also just to clarify, I only asked people who are not stutterers if they occasionally stutter, because I wanted to see if occasional/situational stutter was possible:)
