Stuttering is a neurological problem where the mind does not properly process the speaker's normal voice. It is analogous to problems with bad vision and bad hearing. For bad vision and/or bad hearing we use a prosthesis to correct the problem - eyeglasses/hearing aids. Stuttering is the same. There are several excellent prosthetic devices for stuttering such as Delayed Auditory Feedback (DAF), the Edinburgh Masker and others which dramatically reduce stuttering for most people. No one would think of living with bad vision/hearing. They would get a prosthesis and usually be fine. Get a speech prosthesis and you will probably become the best nurse this side of the Mayo Clinic. Best of luck. :-)
