I understand you perfectly. Sometimes people can't understand the impact of their words, especially when you don't know the pain that person goes through on a daily basis. Sometimes it's not words but looks of embarrassment, disappointment, often of amusement, sometimes of pity, at times of contempt, or even times of anger that people throw at you when you start to stutter and looks that say more than words. Some will understand more than others and will try to be patient but will never truly understand the pain you may be feeling because you cannot understand pain that you do not know. They can help you, be patient and support you, but in the end only you can find the key to free yourself. When we stutter we constantly have a knot in the chest that prevents our words from coming out. The first step is to know where this knot comes from and successfully untie it. Sometimes it's a thought, a memory, maybe what happened the first time the stuttering happened, maybe some trauma or some situation that comes back unconsciously as a strong emotion, stress, or anxiety to disturb speech. Ultimately it's about understanding what causes stuttering in order to make it go away and thus find comfort in speaking up and focus on what you want to say and not on anything else. In short, the key is in you. You will have to be patient with yourself. I hope this works for you and that you can get over the stuttering, because it is indeed possible.
