Same exact situation as you. I have a more severe stutter, practically muted because of it. Been trying to get a job but I don't think it would be possible for me as of right now. All the jobs near me are pretty vocal. Saw stories on this subreddit of how people here work jobs where they have to be vocal most of the time. That's simply not possible for me. Had a friend ask me a question that only takes one sentence to reply. Took me 30-40 seconds just to say like 7 words. I don't use Reddit that often, but when I do I just try to avoid this subreddit. Tired of seeing posts of people asking/talking about a "cure" to stuttering. Most people fail to realize that stuttering can't be cured nor is something that you can just take medicine to go away. Almost all my speech therapist brought this up at one point or another, and been in speech therapy since the age of 4 until now in later my later teenage years. And the anxiety thing, it's something that is never going away for me. I get weird looks or giggles both at school and sometimes in public . I just became a lot more self conscious which just causes me to stutter more. I really don't like the, "well if you stutter then just try not to stutter" mentality. It's the same thing as telling an insomniac to lay down in bed and close their eyes. But despite all this negativity, I still manage to find myself a group of people that accept the fact I have a stutter and don't make a major deal because of it. Still learning how to navigate life with this major obstacle, other severe stutters are on the same boat as us.
