Fellow highschool student here. Here’s some advice: - I go through the exact same thing saying my name. My best advice to you is to never avoid those situations. Don’t run from things that you know would likely require you to introduce yourself. Take deep breaths (try to breath from your stomach), speak with confidence, and elongate the first sound of your name slightly. I find this helps for me. If you still can’t get what you want to say out, try telling the person you have a stutter and sometimes it takes you a bit longer. I know this can be embarrassing, especially in highschool, but if you’re judged for it they’re likely not a good person. -Never let your stutter stop you from doing activities in highschool. Get involved in as much as possible, you miss all the shots you don’t take. -Don’t be afraid to ask for accommodations if you just don’t feel comfortable with something (such as a presentation). Just knowing you have that option brings you comfort. -I know it can be hard when you’re made fun of, but take others opinions with a grain of salt. You’re so much more than how you speak, and they’re likely judging you because they’re insecure with themselves. -Don’t be scared to talk about your stutter and disclose it with your peers/teachers. I know, it’s easier said than done.
