I'm 35, I stuttered severely as a child. At the surface it sounds... Odd I guess. You might learn about the ways other people react, but for me it is the cumulative experiences that you have (oh not again.....). If anything you should do this at times that suck. A busy bar, in the phone with someone in a rush. A call that you initiate and then can't introduce yourself. Being pulled over by the police. While trying to flirt. I can remember the surge of adrenaline and fear, the bead of sweat forming as a stranger starts showing discomfort. It's like it was about breaking social norms in an awkward, inconvenient way. If you're just goin to just ask someone what time it is or where the bathroom is - then don't bother. Try going into Starbucks at rush hour, lots of people, long line, complicated order. Do NOT write it down for them and go alone.
