Speaking is tiring. I am 19M and a stammerer (not by birth; words get blocked). The stammer is not extreme as I can talk to friends in person and on call without stammering most of the times. From a couple of weeks I am practicing loud reading to myself with a Delayed Auditory Feedback app on my phone, which plays my voice as I speak but with a slight delay so I am forced to slow down. My problem starts here. When I'm reading out loud (with or without DAF), I tend to speak with my lower pitch voice (which is how I usually speak at normal loudness). For example, when I reach the end of a sentence (where we lower our pitch to indicate the end of a sentence), I tend to drop my voice gets below my 'minimum pitch' threshold. As a result, I put extra strain on my throat muscles. I also tend to contract muscles behind my neck (lower-back part of my skull) as I mildly struggle to get below the threshold. All this is very tiring and makes me want to take a break. Even a 20km trip on a bicycle doesn't tire me out as much. I am definitely doing something wrong. Or maybe I am losing my voice by keeping silent most of the time? What can I do to improve my speech and talk loudly? Does using DAF for just 2hrs while I read aloud help? Thanks.
