Helpfull resources Hello fellow stutterers. I have grown to really appreciate this group and your stories and posts. I am 34 male and have stuttered all my life. I have in a big part of my life had such control over the situation using avoidance techniques and tension in my abdomen. But I have allways had that low confidence in my voice that we all know, and it has to a certain degree reduced my quality of life and affected my life choices. But for the last year my stuttering has worsened a lot. And the last weeks I have had a series of meetings in my job as a project manager that have made my anxiety hit the roof and it has been exhausting. So I am going back to speech therapy on monday. But I have spent a lot of time the last couple of weeks researching litterature and practicing techniques, especially the «flexible rate» technique and it is really working. I have practiced it in every conversation I have had for a little while. It is hard at first but with a little practice it becomes easier. What this has done is that it really helps me quite easily Get past my complete blocks. And this again has lowered my anxiety for speaking, and again helped me speak more fluent. Because as many of us can, I speak perfectly fluent when I talk to myself. And I have understand that this is because i expect to stutter when talking to others and that triggers a bad circle of anxiety for speaking. I have also read articles from the universtiy of Minnesota and to me, they Are very helpful, so I wanted to share this with you guys in case it can help you to.
