I have a son that severely stutters. But ironically in college I dated a med student who really struggled with dysfluency. At first I thought he was “shy” due to his not speaking much around people (he only had school speech therapy in younger years) after he told me, I admit the first couple of weeks I just didn’t know what to say to him or not to say to him. I didn’t want to say something wrong or be insensitive but after that, I have to tell you I did not even notice it’s just something that I don’t know like an accident or something. The only time I did was when we would go out to eat…. He would occasionally ask me to order or I would see him get more self conscious
