I think the Van Riper observation is very helpful in understanding some of the struggles with self disclosure and the journey through life for those who stammer….I have always considered my stammer as being predominantly covert in nature and sad to say coupled with a huge amount of avoidances over the years which in turn has fuelled the avoidance of self disclosure
