Well, me. I stuttered mildly for 60 years, from the time I was a young lad until June 7, 2021 at 8 AM. Then I had a stroke. I was semi-conscious for about two weeks. A couple of weeks after my discharge from the hospital, I was visited by a physical therapist. When she left, my wife commented, "Do you realize that you were fluent for that entire conversation?" Have been pretty fluent since then. There is just one other report in the literature of this happening before that I know of. The funny thing is, I think I know why, or at least I have a conjecture. I think that during my stay in the hospital, I just forgot that I stuttered. There is a well-known (but maybe not so widely accepted) theory of the cause of stuttering called the Anticipatory Struggle Hypothesis, which posits that it is the fear/anticipation of stuttering that actually causes stuttering. Kind of an unfortunate feedback loop.
